Percussion Ensemble

Fall – Percussion Basics

In the fall, all percussion students in Concert and Symphonic Bands are encouraged to participate in after school percussion sectionals. Students get together after school with percussion instructors and rehearse pep band music and review percussion basics.

Tryouts: None

Competitions: None

Practice Schedule: 2 days/week in the fall. This will taper down to one day/week mid-season.

Fees: TBD – Previous fees have been around $50.

Discovery will provide percussion equipment for students. This group rehearses in the Fall to stay caught up on all the percussion specific things that we don’t have time to do during the large mixed classes during the day. We go over marching percussion basics (since there is no marching band at the middle school level, only pep band in the stands) as well as review concert percussion ensemble basics, fundamentals, etc.

Spring – DMS Competition Percussion Ensemble

Tryouts: November/December annually – exact date TBD

Competitions: SCGC Circuit throughout the Southeast – In the past, locations in Alabama and Tennessee and with the spring band trip in Florida

Practice Schedule: Wednesday/Thursdays 3:30-5:00

Fees: TBD – Previous fees have ranged from $200-$250.

Performances will be more frequent with this group. Performances include DMS band recruiting performances, “Dinner with the Drumline” at BJHS, and various competitions throughout the southeast. Competitions are on Saturdays. They will travel with the BJHS Indoor Drumline and sometimes the BJHS Winterguard.

Fees will be higher than fall basics for this group because of competition and travel expenses, along with uniform requirements, percussion competition equipment/sticks, etc.
