Meet the Directors:
Jenney Merritt
Director of Bands
Jenney is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and is a graduate of Mountain Brook High School. She then moved to Tuscaloosa and earned a bachelors degree in Instrumental Music Education from The University of Alabama. After teaching for a few years in the Madison County school system at Madison County High School, Central School and Madison County Elementary in Gurley, she took the job at Discovery Middle School in 2015. In 2016, she began pursuing her masters degree through the American Band College in Ashland, Oregon, through Sam Houston State University. She completed her masters degree in 2018. Jenney currently resides in Madison with her husband, Matt, their beautiful daughter Lane and golden retriever, Rigby.
Catherine Rhoades
Director of Bands
Catherine Rhoades grew up in Dover, Delaware and relocated to Ocean Springs, Mississippi while she was in middle school. She attained her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mississippi State University in December of 2018 after student teaching at Biloxi Junior High School and Biloxi High School in Mississippi. Following graduation, she served as assistant band director for grades 6-12 at Oxford School District in Oxford, Mississippi. Catherine has just moved to the Huntsville area and is looking forward to getting plugged in to the music community in Alabama with her musically-gifted engineer fiancé, Ryan! She loves kayaking, yoga, musicals, and playing with their two pups; Miniature Schnauzer Sulley and Pittie Mix Laika.
